Short Run Folding Cartons and Carton Prototypes: Common Questions
Can folding cartons be printed in a short run?
Yes. Our cartons are printed on HP Indigo and digital offset presses, which need no plates, and cut digitally, which needs no die. That removes the set-up costs that force conventional carton plants into minimums of several thousand, so a run of 50, 250 or 1,000 cartons is priced as what it is.
Where can I get a folding carton prototype made?
Here, from a single carton. A carton prototype is printed with your artwork and cut from the production dieline, so it shows the real colour, the real fit and the real closure. See prototyping for how the process runs.
What carton styles can you make?
Any structure that can be drawn as a dieline can be cut: standard tuck end cartons and sleeves, or a carton designed from scratch around your product. If you are not sure which style suits it, send the product and we will recommend one.
What board and finishes can I choose?
We offer multiple board stocks and specialty finishes. White ink makes full colour possible on kraft and dark boards, and lamination, spot varnish, foil and windows can be added. Tell us the look you are after and the shelf it will sit on.
How many cartons do I have to order?
There is no minimum. Order one to approve, a few dozen for a sales team or a photo shoot, or several hundred for a launch. The same files then scale to production quantities when you need them.
Will a short run match a later production run?
Yes. The short run is cut from the same dieline and printed to the same colour targets, and the carton you approved becomes the sample a production run is checked against.
What do you need to quote a folding carton?
The product dimensions and weight, the quantity, and your dieline and artwork if you have them. A logo is enough to start. Request a quote, or read the short run packaging guide for what drives the price.
